Breaking Free: Discovering God’s Truth Beyond Our Beliefs

There are two kinds of belief: your truth and God’s truth. Your truth feels profoundly real to you. You believe it with all your heart, shaping your actions through that lens. But is it truly the ultimate truth?

Let me illustrate with an example. For many years, because of my abusive past, I was convinced deep down that I wasn’t good enough—not for God, nor anyone else. I viewed myself as inferior, an unworthy person. I genuinely believed this, and why wouldn’t I? For years, I was treated that way, and those messages became ingrained in my identity.

Whenever I was asked to contribute at church or participate, I declined. I did not feel worthy to serve God. As a result, my life was filled with misery; I lived in depression and isolation. I prayed and asked God why my life felt so devoid of value. He revealed to me that it was because I was seeing myself through a distorted lens. I was not identifying with His truth, nor with the new creation He made me to be. My personal truth was a lie—a terrible one at that. The enemy kept me in bondage for years!

My truth was imprisoning me, weighing me down and making my life a struggle.

In contrast, God’s truth liberates us, offering peace, purpose, and hope. His Word tells us that the truth will set us free. My truth was not liberating; it was confining me. God’s truth provides comfort and strength, transforming everything in our lives for the better.

Is there a belief you hold that keeps you in bondage? I urge you to reflect on this deeply today, for God’s truth is the path to true freedom and liberation.
